It had the possibility of being one of those Hollywood games. Stephen Strasburg returned to his hometown of San Diego where he grew up and played college ball at San Diego State. Only three years have passed since Strasburg was the first over all selection by the Washington Nationals in the MLB draft. There were polls asking how many strikeouts would Strasburg finish the game with. The San Diego Padres seemed ripe for a showcase performance coming in with a 12-24 record. But someone forgot to give the Padres a copy of the script.
The Padres came out hitting and Strasburg's control wasn't at his best. Strasburg only lasted four innings as the Padres had seven hits including a James Darnell solo home run in the third. For his efforts the final line on Strasburg was 4.0 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 5 K and 81 pitches. Turns out the answer to the poll was five.
The Padres won 6-1 giving Strasburg his first loss of the season.
