Blue Jays call up Yan Gomes

The Toronto Blue Jays have called up Yan Gomes from Triple A Las Vegas. Gomes played catcher, first and third at Triple A while hitting .359/.391/.565 with 5 HR, 22 RBI, 17 R and 1 SB in 33 games. When he steps on the field Gomes will become the first Brazilian born player to play in the MLB. He was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the tenth round in 2009. He was drafted out of Division II Barry University in Miami, FL after he had started his college career at the University of Tennessee. Gomes will be 25 on July 19.
