Kyle Hudson traded to Phillies

Kyle Hudson was traded by the Tampa Bay Rays to the Philadelphia Phillies on May 16, 2012. In exchange the Rays receive Rich Thompson.


Hudson is an outfielder who played briefly with the Orioles after rising through the minors playing in Class A Advanced, Double A and Triple A in 2011. He was released by the Orioles after the season, signed with the Rangers in January and was then traded to the Rays in March 2012. While with the Rays Triple A team in Durham he hit .291/.378/.318 with 0 HR, 8 RBI, 16 R and 7 SB in 31 games. He was originally drafted by the Orioles in the fourth round in 2008. Hudson turned 25 on January 7th.


Thompson is a minor league journeyman outfielder who played one game with the Rays in 2012 and six games with the Royals in 2004. This season at the Phillies Triple A team in LeHigh Valley he hit .307/.390/.398 with 0 HR, 11 RBI, 5 R and 7 SB in 29 games. He was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the sixth round in 2000. Thompson turned 33 on April 23.
