Two Major One Minor 052512

Here is the sixth installment of Two Major One Minor for 2012. The players this week are Tommy Milone, Felix Doubront and Barret Loux.

Tommy Milone of the Oakland Athletics is having a strong rookie season after shining the previous three years as he rose through the minors. He was 12-5 in 2009 at Class A Advanced, 12-5 in 2010 at Double A and 12-6 in 2011 at Triple A. Milone came over to the Athletics in the trade that sent Gio Gonzalez to the Nationals. Many call Milone a soft thrower but the LHP put up good rates in the minors. He has good control and I think with more confidence his K/9 rate in the Majors will start to tick up from its current 5.0. This season he is 6-3 with a 3.75 ERA, 32 K, 1.09 WHIP in 57.2 IP over 9 games. He was originally drafted by the Nationals in the tenth round in 2008.  Milone turned 25 on February 16.

Felix Doubront is another LHP who is breaking out in his third season with the Boston Red Sox. He had mostly seen bull pen duty previosuly but this year he snagged a spot in the rotation. This season he is 4-2 with a 3.96 ERA, 53 K, 1.42 WHIP in 50.0 IP over 9 games. He has been getting better as the season advances and has done really well his last three games going 2-1 with a 2.04 ERA, 21 K, 1.22 WHIP in 17.2 IP. He originally signed with the Red Sox as an amateur free agent in 2005 out of Venezuela. Doubront will be 25 on October 23.

Barret Loux is proving himself with the Texas Rangers Double A team in Frisco. He had been drafted by the Diamondbacks with the sixth pick of the first round in 2010 but they didn't sign him out of injury concerns. Yet as I mentioned previously most pitchers are only one pitch away from the DL. Loux signed with the Rangers after being snubbed and is showing his first round talent this season as he is 9-0 with a 2.50 ERA, 48 K, 1.15 WHIP in 50.1 IP over 9 games. The RHP should expect a promotion to Triple A soon and may be with the Rangers this season if he continues to dominate. Loux turned 23 on April 6th.
