Here is my week 14 installment of College Spotlight for 2012. It is the final entry this season as teams head into their conference championships. This week I am looking at Brandon Miller of Samford and Blake Mascarello of Purdue.
Senior outfielder Brandon Miller of Samford tops the Division I leader board with 20 home runs and hit the final two of that tally last Tuesday as Samford upset number 3 ranked Florida. In the game Miller was 2 for 4 with 2 HR, 4 RBI, and 3 R in the 12-7 victory. On the season he is hitting .291/.375/.627 with 20 HR, 58 RBI, 48 R and 0 SB in 55 games. He showed it wasn't a fluke after his Junior season when he hit .270/.382/.582 with 16 HR, 43 RBI, 40 R and 3 SB in 55 games.
Senior LHP Blake Mascarello of Purdue finds his name among the national leaders in ERA and WHIP as he anchored a Boilermaker team which was tops in the Big Ten. For the season he was 8-1 with a 1.69 ERA, 45 K, 0.86 WHIP and 2 SV in 64.0 over 25 games. He improved from his Junior season when he was 2-4 with a 5.08 ERA, 33 K, 1.49 WHIP and 1 SV in 39.0 IP over 16 games.
