Cole Hamels suspended five games
Cole Hamels of the Philadelphia Phillies has been suspended for five games for hitting Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper in the lower back in the first inning yesterday. Hamels tried to claim that it is old school baseball to welcome Harper to MLB that way. It may be part of the tradition of the game but I think five games is too lenient. That penalty only covers one start. I think that the penalties should be different for position players and pitchers. At the very least Hamels should have to miss two starts for this. Harper should also get used to playing with a flack jacket because this likely won't be the first.
