Rafael Furcal was traded by the Los Angeles Dodgers to the St Louis Cardinals on July 31, 2011. In exchange the Dodgers receive minor league player Nick Castellanos.
Shortstop Rafael Furcal has played 12 seasons for the Dodgers and Braves. Before the trade he hit .197 with one home run, 12 RBI, 15 runs and 5 steals in 37 games plus two trips to the DL. For his career he has hit .283 with 101 home runs, 520 RBI, 961 runs and 298 steals in 1434 games. He originally signed with the Braves as an amateur free agent in 1996 out of the Dominican Republic.
Castellanos plays third in the Class A level of the minors and is 19. This season he has hit .303 with six home runs, 60 RBI, 48 runs and 2 steals in 101 games. He was originally drafted by the Tigers with the 44th pick in the first round in 2010.
