Mark Ellis traded to Rockies

Second baseman Mark Ellis was traded by the Oakland Athletics to the Colorado Rockies on June 30, 2011. In exchange the Athletics receive cash, Bruce Billings and a player to be named later.

Mark Ellis was hitting .217 with one home run, 16 RBI, 21 runs and 7 steals in 62 games before the trade. This was his ninth year with Oakland where his career bests included hitting .316 with 13 home runs in 2005, .276 with 19 home runs in 2007 and .291 with five home runs in 2010. He was originally drafted by the Royals in the ninth round in 1999.

Bruce Billings is a RHP and has spent all of 2011 at the Triple A level. He has pitched strictly in the bullpen this season but has some starting experience in previous seasons. In 2010 in Double A he had 14 starts out of 34 games and was 11-6 with a 3.28 ERA, 101 strikeouts and 1.19 WHIP in 109.2 innings. He was originally drafted by the Rockies in the 30th round in 2007.
