Carlos Beltran traded to Giants

Carlos Beltran was traded by the New York Mets to the San Francisco Giants on July 28, 2011. In exchange the Mets receive minor league pitcher Zack Wheeler.


Beltran has played outfield for the Mets, Astros and Royals in his 14 year career. Before the trade he was hitting .289 with 15 home runs, 66 RBI, 61 runs and 3 steals in 98 games. For his career Beltran has hit .282 with 295 home runs, 1128 RBI, 1167 runs and 292 steals in 1724 games. He was originally drafted by the Royals in the second round in 1995.


Zack Wheeler is a RHP at the Class A Advanced  level of the minors and is 21. So far this season he is 7-5 with a 3.99 ERA, 98 strikeouts and 1.38 WHIP in 88 innings. He was originally drafted by the Giants with the sixth pick of the first round in 2009.
