Outfielder Jonny Gomes was traded by the Cincinnati Reds to the Washington Nationals on July 26, 2011. In exchange the Reds receive minor league players Bill Rhinehart and Christopher Manno.
Gomes was hitting .211 with 11 home runs, 31 RBI, 30 runs and 5 steals in 77 games before the trade. He played for the Rays before they Reds and in his career he has hit .244 with 115 home runs, 352 RBI, 332 runs and 43 steals in 738 games. He was originally drafted by the Rays in the 18th round in 2001.
Bill Rhinehart is a left hand hitting outfielder who has been playing at the Double A level of the minors. This season he is hitting .283 with 21 home runs, 59 RBI, 55 runs and one steal in 89 games. He was originally drafted by the Nationals in the 11th round in 2007.
Christopher Manno is a LHP currently playing at the Class A level of the minors. This season he is 1-3 with a 1.04 ERA, 69 strikeouts, 0.81 WHIP and 12 saves in 43.1 innings. He was originally drafted by the Nationals in the 26th round in 2010.
