Doug Fister was traded by the Seattle Mariners to the Detroit Tigers along with David Pauley on July 30, 2011. In exchange the Mariners receive Casper Wells, Charlie Furbush and minor league player Francisco Martinez.
Fister is a RHP who was in his third season with the Mariners. Before the trade he was 3-12 with a 3.33 ERA, 89 strikeouts and 1.17 WHIP in 146 innings over 21 games. For his career he is 12-30 with a 3.81 ERA, 218 strikeouts and 1.24 WHIP in 378 innings over 60 games. He was originally drafted by the Mariners in the seventh round in 2006.
Pauley is a RHP who in 4 seasons has played for the Mariners and Red Sox. Before the trade he was 5-4 with a 2.15 ERA, 34 strikeouts and 0.99 WHIP in 54.1 innings over 39 games. For his career he is 9-16 with a 4.36 ERA, 106 strikeouts and 1.37 WHIP in 173.1 innings over 67 games. He was originally drafted by the Padres in the eighth round in 2001.
Wells is an outfielder who was in his second season with the Tigers. Before the trade he hit .257 with four home runs, 12 RBI, 16 runs and 1 steal in 64 games. For his career he has hit .286 with eight home runs, 29 RBI, 30 runs and 1 steal in 100 games. He was originally drafted by the Tigers in the 14th round in 2005.
Furbush is a LHP who has split the season in Triple A and with the Tigers. This season he was 5-3 with a 3.17 ERA, 61 strikeouts and 0.94 WHIP in 54 innings over 10 triple A games and was 1-3 with a 3.62 ERA, 26 strikeouts and 1.55 WHIP in 32.1 innings over 17 games with Detroit. He was originally drafted by the Tigers in the fourth round in 2007.
Martinez plays third base at the Double A level of the minors and is 20. This season he has hit .282 with seven home runs, 46 RBI, 63 runs and 7 steals in 91 games. He originally signed with the Tigers as an amateur free agent in 2007.
