Matt Garza traded to Rangers

Matt Garza was traded by the Chicago Cubs to the Texas Rangers on July 22, 2013. In exchange the Cubs received C J Edwards, Justin Grimm, Mike Olt and one or two players to be named later.

RHP Garza has eight season MLB experience pitching with the Cusb, Rays and Twins. Prior to the trade he was 6-1, 3.17 ERA, 62 K, 1.14 WHIP in 71.0 IP over 11 games with the Cubs. For his MLB career he is 64-63, 3.78 ERA. 943 K, 1.27 WHIP, 1 SV in 1120.1 IP over 184 games. He was originally drafted by the Twins with the 25th pick of the first round in 2005. Garza will be 30 on November 26. 

RHP Edwards was at Class A Hickory of the Texas Rangers prior to the trade. He was 8-2, 1.83 ERA, 122 K, 1.03 WHIP in 93.1 IP over 18 games at Hickory. He was originally drafted by the Rangers in the 48th round in 2011. Edwards will be 22 on September 3rd.

RHP Grimm had two seasons MLB experience with the Rangers. Prior to the trade he split 2013 between Triple A Round Rock and the Rangers. He was 1-0, 1.59 ERA, 4 K, 1.06 WHIP in 5.2 IP over one game at Round Rock and was 7-7, 6.37 ERA, 68 K, 1.65 WHIP in 89.0 IP over 17 games with the Rangers. For his MLB career he is 8-8, 6.73 ERA, 81 K, 1.67 WHIP in 103.0 IP over 22 games. He was originally drafted by the Rangers in the fifth round in 2010. Grimm will be 25 on August 16.

Olt is a 1B\3B\OF who had a brief stint with the Rangers in 2012. Prior to the trade he had split 2013 between Double A Frisco and Triple A Round Rock of the Texas Rangers. He hit .333/.333/.750 with 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 3 games at Frisco and hit .213/.317/.422 with 11 HR, 32 RBI, 37 R, 0 SB in 65 games at Round Rock. For his MLB career he hit .152/.250/.182 with 0 HR, 5 RBI, 2 R, 1 SB in 16 games. He was originally drafted by the Rangers with the 49th pick of the first round in 2010. Olt will be 25 on August 27.
