Marlon Byrd traded to Pirates

Marlon Byrd was traded by the New York Mets to the Pittsburgh Pirates on August 27, 2013 along with John Buck. In exchange the Mets received Dilson Herrera and a player to be named later.

Byrd is an outfielder with 12 seasons MLB experience playing with the Mets, Red Sox, Cubs, Rangers, Nationals and Phillies. This season he hit .285/.330/.518 with 21 HR, 71 RBI, 61 R, 2 SB in 117 games with the Mets. For his MLB career he has hit .279/.335/.423 with 103 HR, 516 RBI, 586 R, 51 SB in 1220 games. He was originally drafted by the Phillies in the 10th round in 1999. Byrd will be 36 on August 30.

Buck is a catcher with 10 seasons MLB experience playing with the Mets, Marlins and Royals. This season he hit .215/.285/.367 with 15 HR, 60 RBI, 38 R, 2 SB in 101 games with the Mets. For his MLB career he has hit .233/.301/.401 with 133 HR, 483 RBI, 379 R, 6 SB in 1049 games. He was originally drafted by the Astros in the seventh round in 1998. Buck turned 33 on July 7th. 

Herrera is a second baseman who played at Class A West Virginia of the Pittsburgh Pirates. He hit .265/.330/.421 with 11 HR, 56 RBI, 69 R, 11 SB in 109 games at West Virginia. He originally signed with the Pirates in 2010 as an amateur free agent out of Columbia. Herrera turned 19 on March 3rd.
