Justin Morneau traded to Pirates

Justin Morneau was traded by the Minnesota Twins to the Pittsburgh Pirates on August 31, 2013. In exchange the Twins received Alex Presley and a player to be named later or cash.

Morneau is a first baseman with 11 seasons MLB experience playing with the Twins. This season he hit .259/.315/.426 with 17 HR, 74 RBI, 56 R, 0 SB in 127 games with the Twins. For his MLB career he has hit .278/.347/.485 with 221 HR, 860 RBI, 669 R, 5 SB in 1278 games. He was originally drafted by the Twins in the third round in 1999. Morneau turned 32 on May 15.

Presley is an outfielder with four seasons MLB experience playing with the Pirates. He split 2013 between Triple A Indianapolis and the Pirates prior to the trade. He hit .298/.376/.427 with 5 HR, 27 RBI, 57 R, 17 SB in 89 games at Indianapolis and hit .264/.274/.389 with 2 HR, 4 RBI, 8 R, 0 SB in 29 games with the Pirates. For his MLB career he has hit .261/.299/.419 with 16 HR, 49 RBI, 83 R, 19 SB in 204 games. He was originally drafted by the Pirates in the eighth round in 2006. Presley turned 28 on July 25.
