Jose Veras traded to Tigers

Jose Veras was traded by the Houston Astros to the Detroit Tigers on July 29, 2013. In exchange the Astros received Danry Vasquez.

Veras has eight seasons MLB experience pitching with the Astros, Brewers, Pirates, Marlins, Indians and Yankees. Prior to the trade he was 0-4, 2.93 ERA, 44 K, 1.00 WHIP, 19 SV in 43.0 IP over 42 games with the Astros. For his MLB career he is 19-21, 3.82 ERA, 374 K, 1.30 WHIP, 24 SV in 362.2 IP over 374 games. He originally signed with the Devil Rays in 1998 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Veras will be 33 on October 20.

Vasquez is an outfielder who was with Class A Western Michigan of the Detroit Tigers before the trade. He hit .281/.333/.390 with 5 HR, 39 RBI, 46 R, 9 SB in 96 games at Western Michigan. He originally signed with the Tigers in 2010 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela. Vasquez turned 19 on January 8th.
