Ubaldo Jimenez was traded by the Colorado Rockies to the Cleveland Indians on July 30, 2011. In exchange the Rockies receive Alex White, minor league players Joseph Gardner and Matt McBride, plus a player to be named later revealed to be Drew Pomeranz.
Jimenez is a RHP in his sixth season with the Rockies. Before the trade he was 6-9 with a 4.46 ERA, 118 strikeouts and 1.37 WHIP in 123 innings over 21 games. For his career he is 56-45 with a 3.66 ERA, 773 strikeouts and 1.28 WHIP in 851 innings over 138 games. He originally signed with the Rockies as an amateur free agent in 2001 out of the Dominican Republic.
White is a RHP who had spent his first season with Cleveland split between the minors, majors and the DL. This season he was 1-0 with a 1.90 ERA, 28 strikeouts and 1.01 WHIP in 23.2 innings over four games in Triple A and 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA, 13 strikeouts and 1.53 WHIP in 15 innings over three games. He was originally drafted by the Indians with the 15th pick of the first round in 2009.
Gardner is RHP at the Double A level of the minors and is 23. This season he is 7-8 with a 4.99 ERA, 60 strikeouts and 1.59 WHIP in 97.1 innings over 19 games. He was originally drafted by the Indians in the third round in 2009.
McBride has played first base, outfield and catcher in Double A and Triple A this season in the minors. He hit .297 with 14 home runs, 53 RBI, 50 runs and 3 steals in 84 Double A games and hit .156 with one home run, three RBI, three runs and zero steals in 12 Triple A games. He was originally drafted by the Indians in the second round in 2006.
Pomeranz is a RHP who has played in Class A advanced and Double A in the minors this season. He was 3-2 with a 1.87 ERA, 95 strikeouts and 1.14 WHIP in 77 innings over 15 games in Class A advanced and was 0-1 with a 2.57 ERA, 17 strikeouts and 1.14 WHIP in 14 innings over three Double A games. He was originally drafted by the Indians with the fifth pick of the first round in 2010.
