Koji Uehara traded to Rangers

Koji Uehara was traded by the Baltimore Orioles to the Texas Rangers on July 30, 2011. In exchange the Orioles receive Tommy Hunter and Chris Davis. 


RHP Koji Uehara was in his third season with the Orioles after 10 seasons with the Yomiuri Giants in Japan. While playing in Japan he was 112-62 with a 3.01 ERA, 1376 strikeouts, 1.01 WHIP and 33 saves in 1549 innings over 276 games. With the Orioles he was 4-7 with a 3.03 ERA, 165 strikeouts, 1.00 WHIP, and 13 saves in 157.2 innings over 98 games. This season before the trade he was 1-1 with a 1.72 ERA, 62 strikeouts, 0.70 WHIP and zero saves in 47 innings over 43 games.


Hunter is a RHP who was in his fourth season with the Rangers. Before the trade he was 1-1 with a 2.93 ERA, 10 strikeouts and 1.11 WHIP in 15.1 innings after missing part of the season on the DL. While rehabbing in the minors he was 2-2 with a 4.99 ERA, 21 strikeouts and  1.44 WHIP in 30.2 innings. For his career Hunter is 23-13 with a 4.36 ERA, 151 strikeouts and 1.31 WHIP in 266.1 innings over 53games. He was originally drafted by the Rangers with the 54th pick of the first round in 2007.


Davis has played first and third in his four year career with the Rangers where time has been split between the majors and minors. This season before the trade he hit .368 with 24 home runs, 66 RBI, 39 runs and 1 steal in 48 games in Triple A and .250 with three home runs, six RBI, nine runs and zero steals in 27 games with the Rangers. In his career with Texas he has hit .248 with 42 home runs, 124 RBI, 115 runs and 4 steals in 265 games. He was originally drafted by the Rangers in the fifth round in 2006.
