Hunter Pence traded to Phillies

Hunter Pence was traded by the Houston Astros to the Philadelphia Phillies on July 29, 2011. In exchange the Astros receive minor league players Jonathan Singleton, Jarred Cosart, and Josh Zeid plus a player to be named later.


Pence is an outfielder who was in his fifth season with the Astros. Before the trade he was hitting .308 with 11 home runs, 62 RBI, 49 runs and 7 steals in 100 games. For his career he has hit .290 with 103 home runs, 377 RBI, 353 runs and 61 steals in 680 games. He was originally drafted by the Astros in the second round in 2004.


Singleton plays first base and outfield at the Class A advanced level of the minors and is 19. For the season he was hitting .284 with nine home runs, 47 RBI, 48 runs and 3 steals in 936 games. He was originally drafted by the Phillies in the eighth round in 2009.


Cosart is a RHP at the Class A advanced level of the minors and is 21. For the season he is 9-8 with a 3.92 ERA, 79 strikeouts and 1.31 WHIP in 108 innings over 20 games. He was originally drafted by the Phillies in the 38th round in 2008.


Zeid is a RHP at the Double A level of the minors and is 24. For the season he is 2-3 with a 5.65 ERA, 56 strikeouts, 1.41 WHIP and two saves in 63.2 innings over 21 games that also included 11 starts. He was originally drafted by the Phillies in the 10th round in 2009.
