Yonder Alonso was traded by the Oakland Athletics to the Seattle Mariners on August 6, 2017 along with Marc Rzepcynski. The Athletics in exchange received Boog Powell.
First baseman Alonso hit 85 for 319, .266/.369/.527 with 22 HR, 49 RBI, 52 R, 1 SB in 100 games with the Athletics in 2017. Over eight MLB seasons with the Athletics, Padres and Reds he hit .268/.339/.405 with 61 HR, 288 RBI, 273 R, 21 SB in 764 games. He was originally drafted by the Reds with the seventh pick of the first round in 2008 and traded to the Padres in 2011 and traded to the Athletics in 2015. Alonso turned 30 on April 8th.
Outfielder Powell had split 2017 between Triple A Tacoma and the Mariners. He hit 70 for 206, .340/.416/.490 with 6 HR, 33 RBI, 46 R, 11 SB in 58 games at Tacoma and 7 for 36, .194/.310/.194 with 0 HR, 2 RBI, 6 R, 0 SB in 23 games with the Mariners. He was originally drafted by the Athletics in the 20th round in 2012, was traded to the Rays in January 2015 and traded to the Mariners in November 2015. Powell turned 24 on January 14.
