I'm looking at some of the stat leaders in the Gulf Coast League. Currently they aren't even on the Major League radar but if they keep progressing they may be in the show in a few years.
Jeremias Pineda is an outfielder who started the season with the Red Sox GSL Rookie team and after a trade was with the Twins GSL Rookie team. He led the league in batting average and steals as he hit .421/.447/.534 with 0 HR, 22 RBI, 36 R, 14 SB in 36 games with GCL Red Sox and hit .237/.318/.322 with 1 HR, 3 RBI, 8 R, 9 SB in 16 games with GCL Twins. He originally signed with the Red Sox as an amateur free agent in 2011 out of the Dominican Republic. Pineda will be 22 on November 16.
Yeicok Calderon is an outfielder with the Yankees GCL Rookie team. He led the league in home runs and hit .270/.354/.478 with 8 HR, 22 RBI, 24 R, 0 SB in 44 games. He originally signed with the Yankees as an amateur free agent in 2008 out of the Dominican Republic. Calderon will be 21 on December 23.
Yorfrank Lopez is a RHP with the Tigers GCL Rookie team. He lead the league in ERA and strikeouts and was 5-3 with a 2.32 ERA, 57 K, 1.03 WHIP in 54.1 IP over 15 games. He originally signed with the Tigers as an amateur free agent in 2008 out of Venezuela. Lopez will be 22 on December 1st.
Sergio Gomez is a RHP who played with the Red Sox GSL Rookie team. He lead the league in WHIP and was 5-4 with a 2.83 ERA, 56 K, 0.94 WHIP in 57.1 IP over 12 games. He was promoted to the Class A short season team in Lowell where he was 0-0 with a 3.60 ERA, 4 K, 1.00 WHIP in 5.0 IP in one game. He originally signed with the Red Sox in 2009 out of Columbia. Gomez turned 19 on August 24.
