The Boston Red Sox have called up third baseman Will Middlebrooks. He is getting his chance as Kevin Youkilis deals with back problems and is likely headed to the DL.
So far this season with Triple A Pawtucket Red Sox he has hit .333/.380/.677 with 9 HR, 27 RBI, 18 R and 3 SB in 24 games. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the fifth round in 2007. Middlebrooks will turn 24 on September 9.
