Zach Stewart was traded by the Boston Red Sox to the Pittsburgh Pirates on November 28, 2012 for a player to be named later. The RHP has two seasons of MLB experience pitching with the Red Sox, White Sox and Blue Jays. He started 2012 with the White Sox and was traded to Boston in the Kevin Youkilis deal and then split time between Boston and Triple A Pawtucket. He was 1-2 with a 6.00 ERA, 16 K, 1.50 WHIP in 30.0 IP over 18 games at Chicago, was 0-2 with a 22.24 ERA, 3 K, 3.00 WHIP in 5.2 IP over 2 games with Boston and was 3-5 with a 3.94 ERA, 42 K, 1.21 WHIP in 59.1 IP over 11 games at Pawtucket. For his MLB career he is 3-10 with a 6.82 ERA, 64 K, 1.65 WHIP in 103.0 IP over 33 games.
He was originally drafted by the Reds in the third round in 2008. Stewart turned 26 on September 28.
