Peoria 4 Salt River 3 to win 2012 AFL Championship

The Peoria Javalinas who topped the Arizona Fall League West beat the Arizona Fall League East Champs Salt River Rafters 4-3 in a one game winner takes all championship. Peoria was made up of players from the Mariners, Reds, Padres, Phillies and Twins organizations. Salt River was made up of players from the Diamondbacks, Blue Jays, Nationals, Rockies and White Sox organizations. Peoria had a strong offensive effort as Billy Hamilton of the Reds when 2 for 5 with a triple and a run, Nate Roberts of the Twins went 3 for 4 with a run and a walk, Mike Zunino of the Mariners went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI and Rymer Liriano of the Padres was 3 for 3 with a run and a walk. Tim Crabbe of the Reds picked up the win and Kevin Quackenbush of the Padres got the save. Although they fell short Salt River had a good day at the plate by Brain Goodwin of the Nationals who was 2 for 3 with a triple and a walk, Chris Owings of the Diamondbacks who was 2 for 4, Carlos Sanchez of the White Sox who was 2 for 4 with 2 runs and a steal, and Kent Matthes of the Rockies who was 2 for 4 with a RBI and run. Ryan Perry of the Nationals was tabbed with the loss.
