David Price of the Tampa Bay Rays won the 2012 American League Cy Young Award by the Baseball Writers Association of America. He narrowly won with 14 first place votes and 153 points total while second place Justin Verlander of the Tigers had 13 first place votes and 149 points total. Others receiving votes were Jered Weaver of the Angels with 70 points, Felix Hernandez of the Mariners with 41, Fernando Rodney of the Rays with 38, Chris Sale of the White Sox with 17, Jim Johnson of the Orioles with 5, Matt Harrison of the Rangers with 2 and Yu Darvish of the Rangers with 1.
In 2012 the LHP was 20-5 with a 2.56 ERA, 205 K, 1.10 WHIP in 211.0 IP over 31 games. For his MLB career he is 61-31 with a 3.16 ERA, 725 K, 1.17 WHIP in 786.1 IP over 125 games. He was originally drafted by the Rays as the first over all pick in 2007. Price turned 27 on August 26.
