Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals was named the 2012 National League Rookie of the Year after collecting 16 first place votes and 112 points total by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Wade Miley of the Arizona Diamondbacks made it a close race by getting 12 first place votes and 105 points total. Also receiving first place votes were Todd Frazier of the Reds with three and 45 points total and Wilin Rosario of the Rockies with one and 12 total. Others receiving votes were Norichika Aoki of the Brewers with 11 points, Yonder Alonso of the Padres with one point, Matt Carpenter of the Cardinals with one point and Jordan Pacheco of the Rockies with one point.
The outfielder started 2012 with Triple A Syracuse where he hit .243/.325/.365 with 1 HR, 3 RBI, 8 R, 1 SB in 21 games. After his late April call up he hit .270/.340/.477 with 22 HR, 59 RBI, 98 R, 18 SB in 139 games with the Nationals. He was originally drafted by the Nationals with the first overall pick in 2010. Harper turned 20 on October 16.
