Esmil Rogers traded to Blue Jays

Esmil Rogers was traded by the Cleveland Indians to the Toronto Blue Jays on November 3, 2012. In exchange the Indians received Mike Aviles and Yan Gomes.

RHP Rogers has four seasons of MLB experience pitching with the Indians and Rockies. He split 2012 with Colorado and Cleveland as he was 0-2 with a 8.06 ERA, 29 K, 2.10 WHIP in 25.2 IP over 23 games with Colorado and was 3-1 with a 3.06 ERA, 54 K, 1.11 WHIP in 53.0 IP over 44 games with Cleveland. For his MLB career he is 11-12 with a 5.95 ERA, 215 K, 1.66 WHIP in 237.2 IP over 114 games. He originally signed with the Rockies as an amateur free agent in 2003 out of the Dominican Republic.

Aviles is a utility infielder playing SS/2B/3B in five MLB seasons with the Red Sox and Royals. He had been traded to the Blue Jays on October 21. In 2012 he hit .250/.282/.381 with 13 HR, 60 RBI, 57 R, 14 SB in 136 games with Boston. For his MLB career he has hit .277/.308/.408 with 39 HR, 190 RBI, 229 R, 51 SB in 475 games. He was originally drafted by the Royals in the seventh round in 2003. Aviles turned 31 on March 13.

Gomes is a 1B/3B/C who split 2012 between Triple A Las Vegas and Toronto. He hit .328/.380/.557 with 13 HR, 59 RBI, 44 R, 4 SB in 79 games at Las Vegas and hit .204/.264/.367 with 4 HR, 13 RBI, 9 R, 0 SB in 43 games at Toronto. He was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the tenth round in 2009. Gomes turned 25 on July 19.
