Ernesto Frieri traded to Angels

Ernesto Frieri was traded by the San Diego Padres to the Los Angeles Angels on May 3, 2012. In exchange the Padres receive Alexi Amarista and Donn Roach.


RHP Frieri was in his fourth season with the Padres before the trade. This season he is 1-0 with a 2.31 ERA, 18 K, 1.11 WHIP in 11.2 IP over 11 games. In 2011 he was with a 2.71 ERA, 76 K, 1.35 WHIP in 63.0 IP over 59 games. For his career he is 3-3 with a 2.33 ERA, 137 K, 1.24 WHIP in 108.1 IP over 105 games. He was originally signed by the Padres as an amateur free agent in 2003 out of Columbia. Frieri will turn 27 on July 19.


Amarista played second base, shortstop and outfield with the Angels in 2011 as he split the season with Triple A. In 2011 he hit .292/.337/.419 with 4 HR, 50 RBI, 49 R and 15 SB in 86 games at Triple A and hit .154/.182/.250 with 0 HR, 5 RBI, 2 R and 0 SB in 23 games with the Angles. Before the trade he was in Triple A this season hitting .273/.289/.403 with 0 HR, 12 RBI, 11 R and 1 SB in 18 games. He was originally signed by the Angels as an amateur free agent in 2007 out of Venezuela. Amarista turned 23 on April 26.


RHP Roach was pitching at Class A Advanced this season before the trade. He is 5-0 with a 2.16 ERA, 29 K, 0.93 WHIP in 41.2 IP over 6 games. He was originally drafted by the Angels in the third round in 2010. Roach will be 23 on December 14.
