Jacob Turner traded to Cubs

Jacob Turner was traded by the Miami Marlins to the Chicago Cubs on August 8, 2014. The Marlins in exchange received Jose Arias and Tyler Bremer.

RHP Turner had split 2014 between Class A Advanced Jupiter while rehabbing and with the Marlins. He was 1-1, 2.45 ERA, 10 K, 0.73 WHIP in 11.0 IP over 2 games at Jupiter and 4-7, 5.97 ERA, 54 K, 1.65 WHIP in 78.1 IP over 20 games with the Marlins. Over four MLB seasons with the Marlins and Tigers he is 9-21, 4.77 ERA, 175 K, 1.46 WHIP in 264.0 IP over 53 games. He was originally drafted by the Tigers with the ninth pick of the first round in 2009 and was traded to the Marlins in 2012. Turner turned 23 on May 21.

RHP Arias had split 2014 between Rookie Arizona and Class A Kane County. He was 0-0, 6.75 ERA, 3 K, 1.50 WHIP in 2.2 IP over 2 games at Arizona and 1-1, 1.77 ERA, 51 K, 1.01 WHIP, 3 SV in 40.2 IP over 25 games at Kane County. He originally signed with the Cubs in 2010 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Arias turned 23 on January 17.

RHP Bremer had split 2014 between Class A Advanced and Class A Kane County. He was 0-1, 4.70 ERA, 12 K, 1.37 WHIP in 15.1 IP over 8 games at Daytona and 5-1, 2.43 ERA, 51 K, 1.16 WHIP, 12 SV in 37.0 IP over 28 games at Kane County. He was originally drafted by the Cubs in the 27th round in 2012. Bremer will be 25 on December 7th.
