Eric Chavez retires

Eric Chavez announced his retirement from playing baseball in July 2014. The third baseman had 17 seasons MLB experience playing with the Oakland Athletics (1998-2010), New York Yankees (2011-2012) and Arizona Diamondbacks (2013-2014). This season he was hitting .246/.346/.449 with 3 HR, 8 RBI, 6 R, 2 SB in 44 games. For his MLB career he hit .268/.342/.475 with 260 HR, 902 RBI, 816 R, 50 SB in 1615 games. He won six gold gloves (2001-2006) and one silver slugger award (2002). He was originally drafted by the Athletics with the 10th pick of the first round in 1996 out of Mount Carmel High School in San Diego, CA. Chavez was 36 at the time he retired.
