Chris Denorfia traded to Mariners

Chris Denorfia was traded by the San Diego Padres to the Seattle Mariners on July 31, 2014. The Padres in exchange received Stephen Kohlscheen and Abraham Almonte.

Denorfia is an outfielder who hit .242/.293/.319 with 1 HR, 16 RBI, 25 R, 8 SB in 89 games with the Padres in 2014. Over his nine season MLB career with the Padres, Athletics and Reds he has hit .275/.335/.397 with 36 HR, 173 RBI, 260 R, 55 SB in 673 games. He was originally drafted by the Reds in the 19th round in 2002 and was traded to the Athletics in 2007. Denorfia turned 34 on July 15.

RHP Kohlscheen had split 2014 between Double A Jackson and Triple A Tacoma. He was 1-1, 2.25 ERA, 33 K, 1.09 WHIP, 6 SV  in 32.0 IP over 23 games at Jackson and 2-0, 3.28 ERA, 22 K, 1.14 WHIP in 24.2 IP over 15 games at Tacoma. He was originally drafted by the Mariners in the 45th round in 2010. Kohlscheen will be 26 on September 20.

Almonte is an outfielder who had split 2014 between Triple A Tacoma and the Mariners. He hit .267/.333/.390 with 6 HR, 31 RBI, 42 R, 7 SB in 72 games at Tacoma and .198/.248/.292 with 1 HR, 8 RBI, 10 R, 3 SB in 27 games with the Mariners. Over two MLB seasons with the Mariners he had hit .225/.275/.337 with 3 HR, 17 RBI, 20 R, 4 SB in 52 games. He originally signed with the Yankees in 2005 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic and was traded to the Mariners in 2013. Almonte turned 25 on June 27.
