Baseball Name Game 080414

This is the sixth installment of a weekly series where I will look at players with similar names. The purpose is to sort out who is who and clear up any confusion. This week we will look at Conor Gillaspie and Cole Gillespie.

Gillaspie is a 3B\1B who has split 2014 between Triple A Charlotte while rehabbing and the Chicago White Sox. He hit .167/.167/.417 with 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 3 games at Charlotte and .314/.367/.453 with 4 HR, 39 RBI, 42 R, 0 SB in 86 games with the White Sox. Over five MLB seasons with the White Sox and Giants he has hit .271/.329/.410 with 18 HR, 83 RBI, 93 R, 0 SB in 249 games. He bats left and throws right while he is 6-foot-1 and 195. The Giants originally drafted him with the 37th pick of the first round in 2008. Gillaspie turned 27 on July 18.

Gillespie is an outfielder who started 2014 with the Mariners organization splitting time between Triple A Tacoma and the Mariners. The Toronto Blue Jays selected him off waivers and he spent time between Rookie Gulf Coast and Class A Advanced Dunedin while rehabbing and with the Blue Jays. He has hit .362/.456/.741 with 5 HR, 14 RBI, 14 R, 2 SB in 16 games at Tacoma, .254/.312/.324 with 1 HR, 5 RBI, 9 R, 2 SB in 34 games with the Mariners, .333/.429/.333 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 0 R, 0 SB in 2 games at Gulf Coast, .375/.444/.500 with 0 HR, 3 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 2 games at Dunedin and .000/.000/.000 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 0 R, 0 SB in 1 game with the Blue Jays. Over four MLB seasons with the Blue Jays, Mariners, Cubs, Giants and Diamondbacks he has hit .230/.295/.329 with 4 HR, 25 RBI, 28 R, 3 SB in 113 games. He is right handed and is 6-foot-1 and 215. He was originally drafted by the Brewers in the third round in 2006. Gillespie turned 30 on June 20.
