Craig Breslow traded to Red Sox

Craig Breslow was traded by the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Boston Red Sox on July 31, 2012. In exchange the Diamondbacks received Matt Albers and Scott Podsednik.


LHP Breslow is in his seventh MLB season pitching with the Diamondbacks, Athletics, Twins, Indians, Red Sox and Padres. In 2012 he was 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA, 42 K, 1.18 WHIP in 43.1 IP over 40 games with Arizona. For his MLB career he is 14-17 with a 3.00 ERA, 279 K, 1.24 WHIP, 6 SV in 323.2 IP over 336 games. He was originally drafted by the Brewers in the 26th round in 2002. Breslow will be 32 on August 8th.


RHP Albers is in his seventh MLB season pitching with the Red Sox, Orioles and Astros. In 2012 he was 2-0 with a 2.29 ERA, 25 K, 1.14 WHIP in 39.1 IP over 40 games with Boston. For his MLB career he is 21-29 with a 4.78 ERA, 299 K, 1.50 WHIP in 421.1 IP over 277 games. He was originally drafted by the Astros in the 23rd round in 2001. Albers turned 29 on January 20.


Podsednik is an outfielder in his 11th MLB season playing with the Red Sox, Dodgers, Royals, White Sox, Rockies, Brewers and Mariners. He had split 2012 between the Phillies Triple A team in Lehigh Valley, the Red Sox Triple A team in Pawtucket and the Red Sox. He hit .197/.282/.211 with 0 HR, 4 RBI, 13 R, 6 SB in 23 games with Lehigh Valley, hit .281/.330/.360 with 1 HR, 11 RBI, 10 R, 4 SB in 25 games with Pawtucket and hit .387/.409/.484 with 1 HR, 7 RBI, 9 R, 6 SB in 19 games with Boston. For his MLB career he has hit .281/.341/.383 with 42 HR, 307 RBI, 553 R, 307 SB in 1035 games. He was originally drafted by the Rangers in the third round in 1994. Podsednik turned 36 on March 18.
