Kelly Shoppach traded to Mets

Kelly Shoppach was traded by the Boston Red Sox to the New York Mets on August 14, 2012. In exchange the Red Sox received Pedro Beato.

Shoppach is a catcher in his eighth MLB season playing with the Red Sox, Rays and Indians. In 2012 he was hitting .250/.327/.471 with 5 HR, 17 RBI, 16 R, 1 SB in 48 games with Boston. For his MLB career he has hit .227/.317/.424 with 65 HR, 199 RBI, 193 R, 1 SB in 511 games. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the second round in 2001. Shoppach turned 32 on April 29.

RHP Beato had split 2012 between the Mets Class A Advanced team in St Lucie, the Double A team in Binghamton and with the Mets. He was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA, 4 K, 0.75 WHIP in 4.0 IP over 3 games with St Lucie, was 4-4 with a 4.14 ERA, 27 K, 1.16 WHIP in 37.0 IP over 24 games with Binghamton and was 0-0 with a 10.38 ERA, 5 K, 1.61 WHIP in 4.1 IP over 7 games with New York. After time with the Mets in 2011 his MLB record is 2-1 with a 4.67 ERA, 44 K, 1.30 WHIP in 71.1 IP over 67 games. He was originally drafted by the Orioles with the 32nd pick of the first round in 2006. Beato will be 26 on October 27.
