Andy Pettitte Announces Comeback

Andy Pettitte has announced he will attempt a comeback and has signed a minor league contract with the New York Yankees. Pettitte last pitched in 2010 and announced his retirement before the 2011 season. In 2010 the LHP was 11-3 with a 3.28 ERA, 101 strikeouts and 1.27 WHIP in 129 innings over 21 games. That ERA was his third best and the WHIP was his fourth best in a 16 year career.

Yet how effective can Pettitte hope to be after a year removed from the game and turning 40 mid season? He did miss part of 2010 with a groin injury that was the third such injury in his career. It will be interesting to see how much he still has in the tank.
