Ryan Dempster traded to Rangers

Ryan Dempster was traded by the Chicago Cubs to the Texas Rangers on July 31, 2012. In exchange the Cubs received Christian Villanueva and Kyle Hendricks.


RHP Dempster is in his 15th MLB season pitching with the Cubs, Reds and Marlins. In 2012 he was 5-5 with a 2.25 ERA, 83 K, 1.04 WHIP in 104.0 IP over 16 games with Chicago. For his MLB career he is 117-121 with a 4.31 ERA, 1848 K, 1.43 WHIP, 87 SV in 2146.2 IP over 535 games. He was originally drafted by the Rangers in the third round in 1995. Dempster turned 35 on May 3rd.


Villanueva is a third baseman who was playing with the Rangers Class A Advanced team in Myrtle Beach. In 2012 he was hitting .285/.356/.421 with 10 HR, 59 RBI, 45 R, 9 SB in 100 games with Myrtle Beach. He originally signed with the Rangers as an amateur free agent in 2008 out of Mexico. Villanueva turned 21 on June 19.


RHP Hendricks was pitchings with the Rangers Class A Advanced team in Myrtle Beach. In 2012 he was 5-8 with a 2.82 ERA, 112 K, 1.06 WHIP in 130.2 IP over 20 games with Myrtle Beach. He was originally drafted by the Rangers in the eighth round in 2011. Hendricks will be 23 on December 7th.
