Geovany Soto traded to Rangers

Geovany Soto was traded by the Chicago Cubs to the Texas Rangers on July 31, 2012. In exchange the Cubs received Jake Brigham and a player to be named later or cash.


Soto is a catcher in his eighth MLB season all with the Cubs. In 2012 he was hitting .199/.284/.347 with 6 HR, 14 RBI, 26 R, 0 SB in 52 games with Chicago. For his MLB career he has hit .252/.342/.445 with 77 HR, 264 RBI, 225 R, 1 SB in 555 games. He was originally drafted by the Cubs in the 11th round in 2001. Soto turned 29 on January 29.


RHP Brigham was pitching for the Rangers Double A team in Frisco. In 2012 he was 5-5 with a 4.28 ERA, 116 K, 1.35 WHIP in 124.0 IP over 21 games with Frisco. He was originally drafted by the Rangers in the sixth round in 2006. Brigham turned 24 on February 10.
