Jonathon Niese traded to Mets

Jonathon Niese was traded by the Pittsburgh Pirates to the New York Mets on August 1, 2016. The Pirates in exchange received Antonio Bastardo and cash.

LHP Niese was 8-6, 4.91 ERA, 76 K, 1.55 WHIP, .297 BAA in 110.0 IP over 23 games with 18 GS with the Pirates in 2016. Over nine MLB seasons with the Pirates and Mets he was 69-97, 4.00 ERA, 902 K, 1.38 WHIP, .275 BAA in 1178.1 IP over 205 games with 195 GS. He was originally drafted by the Mets in the seventh round in 2005 and was traded to the Pirates in 2015. Niese will be 30 on October 27.

LHP Bastardo was 0-0, 4.74 ERA, 46 K, 1.42 WHIP, .244 BAA in 43.2 IP over 41 games with the Mets in 2016. Over eight MLB seasons with the Mets, Pirates and Phillies he was 24-19, 3.73 ERA, 434 K, 1.23 WHIP, .205 BAA, 12 SV in 360.0 IP over 382 games with 5 GS. He originally signed with the Phillies in 2005 as na amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Bastardo will be 31 on September 21.
