Neil Walker traded to Mets

Neil Walker was traded by the Pittsburgh Pirates to the New York Mets on December 9, 2015. The Pirates in exchange received Jonathon Niese.

Walker is a second baseman who hit .269/.328/.427 with 16 HR, 71 RBI, 69 R, 4 SB in 151 games with the Pirates in 2015. Over seven MLB seasons with the Pirates he hit .272/.338/.431 with 93 HR, 418 RBI, 405 R, 26 SB in 836 games. He was originally drafted by the Pirates with the 11th pick of the first round in 2004. Walker will be 31 on September 10.

LHP Niese was 9-10, 4.13 ERA, 113 K, 1.40 WHIP, .280 BAA in 176.2 IP over 33 games with 29 GS in 2015 with the Mets. Over eight MLB seasons with the Mets he was 61-61, 3.91 ERA, 826 K, 1.36 WHIP, .272 BAA in 1068.1 IP over 182 games with 177 GS. He was originally drafted by the Mets in the seventh round in 2005. Niese will be 30 on October 27.
