Jay Bruce traded to Mets

Jay Bruce was traded by the Cincinnati Reds to the New York Mets on August 1, 2016. The Reds in exchange received Dilson Herrera and Max Wotell.

Bruce is an outfielder who hit .265/.316/.559 with 25 HR, 80 RBI, 60 R, 4 SB in 97 games with the Reds in 2016. Over nine MLB seasons with the Reds he hit .249/.319/.470 with 233 HR, 718 RBI, 655 R, 61 SB in 1220 games. He was originally drafted by the Reds with the 12th pick of the first round in 2005. Bruce turned 29 on April 3rd.

Herrera is a second baseman who hit .276/.327/.462 with 13 HR, 55 RBI, 61 R, 6 SB in 86 games at Triple A Las Vegas in 2016. Over two MLB seasons with the Mets he hit .215/.308/.383 with 6 HR, 17 RBI, 13 R, 2 SB in 49 games. He originally signed with the Pirates in 2010 as an amateur free agent out of Columbia and was traded to the Mets in 2013. Herrera turned 22 on March 3rd.

LHP Wotell was 3-1, 3.94 ERA, 31 K, 1.21 WHIP, .220 BAA in 29.2 IP over 6 games at Rookie Kingsport in 2016. He was originally drafted by the Mets in the third round in 2015. Wotell will be 20 on September 13.
