Here is my week 14 installment of College Spotlight for 2014. This week I am looking at Griff Gordon of Jacksonville State and James Farris of Arizona.
Gordon is a senior outfielder out of Alexander City High School in Alexander City, AL. On Friday he had a very productive day at the plate in a 13 inning slugfest which his Gamecocks won 11-9 over Morehead State. For he game he was 5 for 8 with a double, home run, 3 RBI and 2 runs while batting third and playing right field. For the season he is hitting .372/.438/.527 with 7 HR, 43 RBI, 44 R, 9 SB in 54 games. Last year in his junior season he hit .341/.434/.441 with 2 HR, 40 RBI, 47 R, 4 SB in 58 games. He played two seasons at Southern Union Community College in Wadley, AL.
Farris is a senior RHP out of Highland High School in Gilbert, AZ. On Friday he had a complete game shut out as his Wildcats won 6-0 over California. His line for the game was 9.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 7 K in 117 pitches. For the season he is 5-6, 3.53 ERA, 93 K, 1.15 WHIP in 104.2 IP over 15 games. Last season as a junior he was 5-5, 4.18 ERA, 73 K, 1.13 WHIP in 99.0 IP over 15 games.
