Here is my week 13 installment of College Spotlight for 2014. This week I am looking at Kristoffer Koerper of New Mexico State and Alex Klonowski of Northern Illinois.
Koerper is a senior first baseman out of Onate High School in Las Cruces, NM. On Sunday he had a monster day at the plate hitting 6 for 7 while powering the Aggies to a 19-7 victory over CSU-Bakersfield. For the game he was 6 for 7 with 2 doubles, a home run, 7 RBI and 3 runs while batting fifth and playing first base. For the season he is hitting .320/.402/.462 with 4 HR, 41 RBI, 33 R, 1 SB in 44 games. Koerper transferred to New Mexico State from Division II Delta State where he last played in 2012 and hit .349/.462/.605 with 2 HR, 13 RBI, 7 R, 0 SB in 27 games.
RHP Klonowski is a senior out of Kearney High School in Kearney, MO. On Sunday he pitched a complete game shut out to guide the Huskies to a 2-0 win over Akron. His line for the game was 9.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 7 K in 110 pitches. It was a school record third shut out this season in which he is 4-5, 2.29 ERA, 59 K, 1.10 WHIP in 86.1 IP over 13 games. Last season he was 4-7, 4.97 ERA, 57 K, 1.59 WHIP in 88.2 IP over 14 games.
