Chasing 50-50 050114

This is the third year of my Chasing 50-50 segment. It started two seasons ago as we followed Matt Kemp of the Dodgers in his self proclaimed attempt to hit 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases. The 2014 season is under way and we are going to follow Kemp's efforts to see if he can make another run. As long as he is playing Kemp will always be part of this. I'm also keeping Mike Trout of the Angels and Carlos Gonzalez of the Rockies in the mix because I think they also have the speed\power combo capable of reaching the mark some day. Others will be added throughout the season as their production warrants. As of  May 1st I am adding Gonzalez's Rockies teammate Charlie Blackmon, Brewers teammates Carlos Gomez and Ryan Braun and Brian Dozier of the Twins. This is week four of the chase.

Matt Kemp

Kemp struggled this week but added to the important categories while hitting 5 for 23 with 1 HR, 2 RBI, 3 R, 1 SB in 6 games. For the season he is hitting .224/.314/.487 with 4 HR, 9 RBI, 11 R, 3 SB in 22 games

Mike Trout

Trout continued to shine hitting 7 for 20 with 1 HR, 4 RBI, 4 R, 2 SB in 6 games. For the season he is hitting .321/.403/.596 with 6 HR, 18 RBI, 21 R, 4 SB in 27 games

Carlos Gonzalez

Gonzalez struggled for a third week but had some pop as he hit 5 for 30 with 2 HR, 5 RBI, 3 R, 0 SB in 7 games. For the season he is hitting .241/.293/.454 with 5 HR, 18 RBI, 17 R, 2 SB in 27 games

Charlie Blackmon

Blackmon has cooled from his scorching start as he hit 5 for 24 with 0 HR, 3 RBI, 4 R, 1 SB in 7 games. For the season he is hitting .374/.418/.616 with 5 HR, 18 RBI, 23 R, 7 SB in 28 games

Carlos Gomez

Gomez had a steady week at the plate hitting 9 for 29 with 2 HR, 5 RBI, 5 R, 1 SB in 7 games. For the season he is hitting .294/.356/.571 with 7 HR, 17 RBI, 19 R, 4 SB in 29 games.
