Josh Reddick was traded by the Oakland Athletics to the Los Angeles Dodgers on August 1, 2016 along with Rich Hill. The Athletics in exchange received Frankie Montas, Grant Holmes and Jharel Cotton.
Reddick is an outfielder who split 2016 between Triple A Nashville while rehabbing and the Athletics. He hit .3 for 25, .120/.154/.280 with 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 R, 0 SB in 6 games at Nashville and 296/.368/.449 with 8 HR, 28 RBI, 33 R, 5 SB in 68 games with the Athletics. Over eight MLB seasons with the Athletics and Red Sox he hit .255/.317/.436 with 94 HR, 337 RBI, 343 R, 38 SB in 739 games. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the 17th round in 2006 and was traded to the Athletics in 2011. Reddick turned 29 on February 19.
LHP Hill split 2016 between Class A Advanced Stockton while rehabbing and the Athletics. He was 0-0, 3.00 ERA, 6 K, 1.33 WHIP, .308 BAA in 3.0 IP in 1 game at Stockton and 9-3, 2.25 ERA, 90 K, 1.09 WHIP, .201 BAA in 76.0 IP over 14 games with the Athletics. Over 12 MLB seasons with the Athletics, Red Sox, Yankees, Angels, Indians, Orioles and Cubs he was 35-26, 4.23 ERA, 577 K, 1.32 WHIP, .233 BAA in 576.0 IP over 215 games with 88 GS. He was originally drafted by the Cubs in the fourth round in 2002. Hill turned 36 on March 11.
RHP Montas split 2016 between Double A Tulsa and Triple A Oklahoma City. He was 0-0, 1.93 ERA, 7 K, 0.64 WHIP, .133 BAA in 4.2 IP over 3 games with 1 GS at Tulsa and 0-0, 2.38 ERA, 15 K, 1.24 WHIP, .279 BAA in 11.1 IP over 4 games with 3 GS at Oklahoma City. He originally signed with the Red Sox in 2009 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic, was traded to the White Sox in 2013 and traded to the Dodgers in 2015. Montas turned 23 on March 21.
RHP Holmes was 8-4, 4.02 ERA, 100 K, 1.39 WHIP, .254 BAA. 1 SV in 105.1 IP over 20 games with 18 GS at Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga in 2016. He was originally drafted by the Dodgers with the 22nd pick of the first round in 2014. Holmes turned 22 on March 22.
RHP Cotton was 8-5, 4.90 ERA, 119 K, 1.15 WHIP, .219 BAA in 97.1 IP over 22 games with 16 GS at Triple A Oklahoma City in 2016. He was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the 20th round in 2012. Cotton turned 24 on January 19.
