Brandon Guyer was traded by the Tampa Bay Rays to the Cleveland Indians on August 1, 2016. The Rays in exchange received Jhonleider Salinas and Nathan Lukes.
Guyer is an outfielder who split 2016 between Class A Advance Charlotte while rehabbing and the Rays. He hit 2 for 12, .167/.167/.250 with 0 HR, 1 RBI, 2 R, 0 SB in 3 games at Charlotte and .241/.347/.406 with 7 HR, 18 RBI, 27 R, 2 SB in 63 games with the Rays. Over five MLB seasons with the Rays he hit .255/.341/.396 with 21 HR, 76 RBI, 124 R, 18 SB in 306 games. He was originally drafted by the Cubs in the fifth round in 2007 and was traded to the Rays in 2011. Guyer turned 30 on January 28.
Lukes is an outfielder who split 2016 between Class A Lake County and Class A Advanced Lynchburg. He hit .301/.375/.453 with 5 HR, 32 RBI, 54 R, 14 SB in 89 games at Lake County and .261/.261/.304 with 0 HR, 1 RBI, 3 R, 1 SB in 5 games at Lynchburg. He was originally drafted by the Indians in the seventh round in 2015. Lukes turned 22 on July 12.
RHP Salinas was 3-2, 2.70 ERA, 38 K, 1.30 WHIP, .223 BAA in 30.0 IP over 9 games with 4 GS at Rookie Arizona in 2016. He originally signed with the Indians in 2015 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela. Salinas will be 21 on September 25.
