Kurt Suzuki traded to Nationals

Kurt Suzuki was traded by the Oakland Athletics to the Washington Nationals on August 3, 2012. In exchange the Athletics received David Freitas.


Suzuki is a catcher in his sixth MLB season all with the Athletics. In 2012 he hit .218/.250/.286 with 1 HR, 18 RBI, 19 R, 1 SB in 75 games with Oakland. For his MLB career he has hit .254/.311/.378 with 57 HR, 302 RBI, 283 R, 16 SB in 703 games. He was originally drafted by the Athletics in the second round in 2004. Suzuki will be 29 on October 4th.


Freitas is a catcher who was playing with the Nationals Class A Advanced team in Potomac. In 2012 he hit .271/.374/.407 with 5 HR, 46 RBI, 37 R, 0 SB in 78 games with Potomac. He was originally drafted by the Nationals in the 15th round in 2010. Freitas turned 23 on March 18.
