Edward Mujica traded to Cardinals

Edward Mujica was traded by the Miami Marlins to the St Louis Cardinals on July 31, 2012. In exchange the Marlins received Zack Cox.


RHP Mujica is in his seventh MLB season pitching for the Marlins, Padres and Indians. In 2012 he was 0-3 with a 4.38 ERA, 26 K, 1.15 WHIP, 2 SV in 39.0 IP over 41 games with Miami. For his MLB career he is 17-18 with a 4.12 ERA, 283 K, 1.17 WHIP, 4 SV in 349.1 IP over 288 games. He originally signed with the Indians as an amateur free agent in 2001 out of Venezuela. Mujica turned 28 on May 10.


Cox is a third baseman who was playing with the Cardinals Triple A team in Memphis. He was hitting .254/.294/.421 with 9 HR, 30 RBI, 27 R, 1 SB in 84 games with Memphis. He was originally drafted by the Cardinals with the 25th pick of the first round in 2010. Cox turned 23 on May 9th.
