Yovani Gallardo traded to Mariners

Yovani Gallardo was traded by the Baltimore Orioles to the Seattle Mariners on January 6, 2017. The Orioles in exchange received Seth Smith.

RHP Gallardo split 2016 between Class A Advanced Frederick and Triple A Norfolk while rehabbing and the Orioles. He was 0-0, 9.00 ERA, 4 K, 3.00 WHIP, .467 BAA in 3.0 IP in 1 game at Frederick, 1-0, 3.60 ERA, 10 K, 0.90 WHIP, .143 BAA in 10.0 IP over 2 games at Norfolk and 6-8, 5.42 ERA, 85 K, 1.58 WHIP, .276 BAA in 118.0 IP over 23 games with the Orioles. Over 10 MLB seasons with the Orioles, Rangers and Brewers he was 108-83, 3.79 ERA, 1432 K, 1.34 WHIP, .251 BAA in 1591.2 IP over 270 games. He was originally drafted by the Brewers in the second round in 2004, traded to the Rangers in 2015 and signed with the Orioles as a Free Agent in 2016. GAllardo will be 31 on February 27.

Smith is an outfielder who hit .249/.342/.415 with 16 HR, 63 RBI, 62 R, 0 SB in 137 games with the Mariners in 2016. Over 10 MLB seasons with the Mariners, Padres, Athletics and Rockies he hit .261/.344/.447 with 113 HR, 426 RBI, 475 R, 20 SB in 1138 games. He was originally drafted by the Rockies in the second round in 2004, traded to the Athletics in 2012, traded to the Padres in 2013 and traded to the Mariners in 2014. Smith turned 34 on September 30.
