Dan Straily was traded by the Cincinnati Reds to the Miami Marlins on January 19, 2017. The Reds in exchange received Austin Brice, Isaiah White and Luis Castillo.
RHP Straily was 14-8, 3.76 ERA, 162 K, 1.19 WHIP, .220 BAA in 191.1 IP over 34 games with 31 GS with the Reds in 2016. Over five MLB seasons with the Reds, Astros, Cubs and Athletics he was 27-21, 4.24 ERA, 379 K, 1.26 WHIP, .231 BAA in 451.2 IP over 86 games with 76 GS. He was originally drafted by the Athletics in the 24th round in 2009, was traded to the Cubs in 2014, traded to the Astros in 2015, traded to the Padres in March 2016 and selected off waivers by the Reds in April 2016. Straily turned 28 on December 1st.
RHP Brice split 2016 between Double A Jacksonville, Triple A New Orleans and the Marlins. He was 4-7, 2.89 ERA, 79 K, 1.16 WHIP, .231 BAA, 2 SV in 93.1 IP over 27 games with 13 GS at Jacksonville, 0-0, 1.04 ERA, 10 K, 0.46 WHIP, .111 BAA, 2 SV in 8.2 IP over 5 games at New Orleans and 0-1, 7.07 ERA, 14 K, 1.00 WHIP, .173 BAA in 14.0 IP over 15 games with the Marlins. He was originally drafted by the Marlins in the ninth round in 2010. Brice will be 25 on June 19.
White is an outfielder who hit .214/.306/.301 with 1 HR, 17 RBI, 23 R, 5 SB in 51 games at Short Season A Batavia in 2016. He was originally drafted by the Marlins in the third round in 2015. White turned 20 on January 7th.
RHP Castillo split 2016 between Class A Advanced Jupiter and Jacksonville. He was 8-4, 2.07 ERA, 91 K, 0.96 WHIP, .219 BAA in 117.2 IP over 23 games with 21 GS at Jupiter and 0-2, 3.86 ERA, 12 K, 1.36 WHIP, 2.18 BAA in 14.0 IP over 3 games at Jacksonville. He originally signed with the Giants in 2011 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic and was traded to the Marlins in 2014. Castillo turned 24 on December 12.
