Nathan Karns traded to Royals

Nathan Karns was traded by the Seattle Mariners to the Kansas City Royals on January 6, 2017. The Mariners in exchange received Jarrod Dyson.

RHP Karns was 6-2, 5.15 ERA, 101 K, 1.48 WHIP, .259 BAA, 1 SV in 94.1 IP over 22 games with 15 GS with the Mariners in 2016. He missed the last two months of the season on the DL. Over four MLB seasons with the Mariners, Rays and Nationals he was 14-9. 4.41 ERA, 270 K, 1.36 WHIP, .247 BAA, 1 SV in 265.1 IP over 54 games with 46 GS. He was originally drafted by the Nationals in the 12th round in 2009, traded to the Rays in 2014 and traded to the Mariners in 2015. Karns turned 29 on November 25.

Dyson is an outfielder who split 2016 between Triple A Omaha while rehabbing and the Royals. He hit 7 for 22, .318/.464/.318 with 0 HR, 1 RBI, 7 R, 4 SB in 7 games at Omaha and .278/.340/.388 with 1 HR, 25 RBI, 46 R, 30 SB in 107 games with the Royals. Over seven MLB seasons with the Royals he hit .260/.325/.353 with 7 HR, 101 RBI, 211 R, 176 SB in 550 games. He was originally drafted by the Royals in the 50th round in 2006. Dyson turned 32 on August 15.
