Peter O'Brien traded to Royals

Peter O'Brien was traded by the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Kansas City Royals on January 3, 2017. The Diamondbacks in exchange received Sam Lewis.

O'Brien is an outfielder who split 2016 between Triple A Reno and the Diamondbacks. He hit .254/.295/.505 with 24 HR, 75 RBI, 64 R, 2 SB in 105 games at Reno and 9 for 64, .141/.179/.391 with 5 HR, 9 RBI, 6 R, 0 SB in 28 games with the Diamondbacks. Over two MLB seasons with the Diamondbacks he hit 13 for 74, .176/.228/.446 with 6 HR, 12 RBI, 7 R, 0 SB in 36 games. He was originally drafted by the Yankees in the second round in 2014 and was traded to the Diamondbacks in 2014. O'Brien turned 26 on July 15.

RHP Lewis split 2016 between Rookie Idaho Falls, Class A Lexington and Class A Advanced Wilmington. He was 0-0, 6.75 ERA, 3 K, 1.25 WHIP, .333 BAA in 4.0 IP over 2 games at Idaho Falls, 1-1, 1.11 ERA, 24 K, 0.66 WHIP, .169 BAA, 1 SV in 24.1 IP over 12 games at Lexington and 2-0, 3.00 ERA, 6 K, 1.00 WHIP, .194 BAA in 9.0 IP over 5 games at Wilmington. He originally signed with the Royals in 2012 as a non-drafted free agent. Lewis turned 25 on October 9th.
